METAL FRAMING & DRYWALL I:      Registration Fee – $25

This course provides a basic working knowledge of metal framing and drywall installation utilizing the new UBC Curriculum. Topics covered include safety, tools, print reading, materials, wall stud layout, drywall application, basic soffits and door frames. Hand tools are required.  Course length: 24 Hours

METAL FRAMING & DRYWALL II:     Registration Fee – $25

This course is designed to provide more advanced training in soffit framing, commercial walls, etc. Topics to be covered include reading prints for interior applications, more intricate soffits, and various commercial wall applications. Hand tools are required. Course Length:  32 Hours

 Prerequisite:  Metal Framing and Drywall I or commercial interior experience.

ACOUSTICAL CEILINGS:    Registration Fee – $25

This course provides a basic working knowledge of layout and installation of exposed grid suspended ceilings. Topics to be covered include safety, tools, materials and laser leveling of ceiling installation. Hand tools required. Laser operator cards issued. Course Length: 24 hours

INTERIOR SYSTEMS LAYOUT :         Registration Fee – $25

This class is designed to utilize the newly developed UBC Interior Systems Layout student manual. This class will cover layout of angles, octagons, segmental and elliptical arches. The layout methods covered can be applied to all areas of the carpentry trade.

 Prerequisite: Metal Framing and Drywall I or previous layout experience

 INTERIOR TRIM: Registration Fee – $25

This course presents basic theory, calculations, safety, proper layout, cutting and hands-on assembly of basic interior trim. Trimming out of doors and windows as well as standing and running trim including base, chair rail and crown will also be covered. Hand tools are required. Course Length: 24 hours.

BASIC COMMERCIAL DOOR & HARDWARE:      Registration Fee – $25

This 16-hour training class will cover the basics of commercial door & hardware installation. Blueprints and door schedules will be reviewed. Proper installation of K-D frames, and correct installation and adjustment of doors will be covered. Also presented will be proper mortising, boring and installation of locksets as well as the drilling, tapping and installation of closures.

 Tools required: hammer, tape measure, comb. square, chisels, screwdrivers & Allen wrenches.

 COMMERCIAL DOOR & HARDWARE TRAINING:      Registration Fee – $25

This 24-hour training class will cover installation of various door hardware, including lock sets, closures, panic hardware, etc. The training includes theory, safety, materials, tools and techniques.  Course Length: 24 hours

 Prerequisite: A basic knowledge of doors and hardware is recommended

BUILDERS LEVEL & TRANSIT:          Registration Fee – $25

This course presents the operation, function and proper use of the transit level.  Course Length: 24 Hours

Skills introduced include:

• Setting up the Transit
• Interpreting bench marks and reading elevations
• Transferring bench marks with multiple set ups
• Plumbing over a point
• Turning angles and reading vernier scales
• Converting feet and inches to decimal equivalent
• Perform calculations using engineer’s measurements
• Proper note-keeping techniques using Field Book

BASIC STAIR BUILDING:          Registration Fee – $25 

This course presents basic theory, calculations, safety, proper layout, cutting and hands-on assembly of open and closed stringer stairs. Length of stairwell openings will also be discussed. Hand tools are required. Course length: 16 Hours.

PILE DRIVING:      Registration Fee – $25

This course will cover the history and theory of pile driving. Types of piles, hammers, layout and splicing of piles will be covered. The course will involve classroom and hands-on training.
